Life Goals: Laying a Foundation for the Masses
One of my inspirations is Booker T. Washington. He was born a slave (as someone else’s property), but was emancipated as a kid and became the head of an educational institution. He focused on stirring up economic training and development, so that students would learn more valuable lessons than those merely found through researching and writing papers. He taught that developing self-reliance among his community would help develop the changes they wanted to see. His efforts led him to become a prominent voice among African Americans, allowing him to have a say in some of the social change he knew was important for his community.
He stated in his autobiography Up From Slavery:
As for my individual self, it appeared to me to be reasonably certain that I could succeed in political life, but I had a feeling that it would be a rather selfish kind of success – individual success at the cost of failing to do my duty in assisting in laying a foundation for the masses.
I believe I am undergoing this type of transformation. I do not want to work for me, but for the Lord and others.
This has quite an impact when you look at what Washington accomplished with his lifetime.
If you can respect this, I believe you will find something we can connect with, so please engage with me!
